LP Take on Federal Budget 2017 – Part 2
"Many of Metro Vancouver's cities already have TOD or Transit Oriented Development policies in place" - London Pacific's Grant Gardner

The Translink Mayor’s Council on Regional Transportation welcomed the Government of Canada’s commitment of $2.2 billion for Metro Vancouver transit projects.  “The money would cover about 40% of what is needed to fund the Surrey LRT and the Broadway extension of the Millenium Line” – CBC

Surrey Mayor Linda Hepner stated, “We are closer than ever to putting shovels in the ground for Surrey LRT, so we can move more people around our growing region on transit”.

While the current BC government has pledged to cover 33% of the costs associated with these rapid transit projects, there is a provincial election less than 2 months away.  The Mayor’s Council is calling on all provincial parties to commit to match the federal funding dollar for dollar for construction specifically of Surrey LRT and the Broadway extension – Translink

Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson, Chair of the Mayors’ Council said, “The Council appreciates the federal government’s commitment to improving public transit and reducing traffic congestion to keep people moving across our growing region.”

“Many of Metro Vancouver’s cities already have Transit Oriented Development (TOD) policies in place,” London Pacific’s Grant Gardner commented, “With the roll out of these rapid transit projects, development and growth should be focused adjacent and along side these corridors”.
